Nursery Program

THREE YEAR OLDS... Children of this age are unique and full of wonder.  They spend a lot of time observing and imitating.  They love to explore words and language.   Our program provides a nurturing environment which encourages independence and development of social skills.  We provide a positive approach to learning through play and hands-on experiences.  We offer a wide range of developmentally stimulating activities which include age appropriate arts and craft, music and movement, storytelling, painting as well as both fine and gross motor development.  Following are the goals we strive to reach with our three year during this first experience in school.

  • Social/Emotional Development covers a range of goals; separation from parents, expressing feelings properly, respect of others and property, positive self-image, increased attention span, transitions and introduction to health and safety
  • Conceptual Development covers recognizing  primary colors  and basic shapes, introduction to simple concepts; small, medium and large, in/out, over/under, introduction to matching forms and shapes, participation in planned group activities, and cause and effect
  • Language/Reading Skills encourages recognition of first name, introduction to the letters of the alphabet through songs and games, introduction to the days of the week and the months of the year, introduction to multi step directions
  • Number Readiness covers recognition and understand the concept of numbers 1-10, rote counting 1-20
  • Large Motor Development encourages hopping on two feet, galloping, marching, throwing and catching a ball, balancing on one foot, climbing structures and correctly using the balance beam
  • Fine/Visual Motor Development covers holding the writing instrument correctly, introduction to tracing, introduction to cutting straight and curved lines, stringing beads, play dough, finger paint as well as development of hand/eye coordination using various age appropriate manipulatives.
  • Music/Movement is offered by our Music Teacher once a week where the children enjoy playing assorted instruments while parading around the room.  They are introduced to age appropriate songs as well as many finger plays and flannel board stories.  In the spring, we offer a recital where the children perform on stage for their families.
  • Field Trips include a visit from The Science Museum of Long Island in the fall with their “Small Animal Encounter” and in the spring we visit the Garden City Library and the Garden City Firehouse
  • Parents are welcome to several events throughout the year…a coffee social at the beginning of the year, an Annual Family Picnic to start our year, Halloween parades, Santa visits, Easter Hat parade, a Spring Music Recital and an end of the year class picnic.
