Pre-Kindergarten Program

FOUR YEAR OLDS... Children of this age are energetic, imaginative, talkative and curious.  They are eager to show what he or she can do.  They are developing self- control and ingenuity.  Their pretend play is more complex.  They can make plans and complete tasks.  They want to try new experiences, be self -reliant and be independent decision makers.  They learn by experiencing and by doing.  Our program encourages development of the skills needed to succeed in Kindergarten while allowing the children to learn through play and interaction with their peers.

  • Hands-on activities teach basic math and science concepts
  • Themes encourage curiosity, self-direction and persistence
  • Reading readiness programs introduce the alphabet using letterforms, sounds and words
  • Storytelling and play acting through introduction to the wonderful world of books in our library
  • Encourage independent behaviors needed in Kindergarten,
  • Teachers model cooperative play and problem solving
  • Develop fine motor skills with numerous sensory activities, cutting exercises,  finger painting, play dough and sensory tables filled with rice, pasta, sand and sometimes “snow”
  • Introduction to fine art by studying the Masters…DaVinci, Pollack, Monet, Mondrian and more
  • Music program where children learn songs, finger plays and flannel boards as well as introduction to instruments.  In the spring, the children proudly perform a musical recital for their families.
  • Indoor and outdoor play areas address gross motor skills allowing them to climb, run, jump, ride bikes and scooters and slide…an important time for them to enjoy creative and imaginative play
  • Field trips include a pumpkin farm in the fall, Garden City Firehouse, NC Fireman's Museum, and Broadhollow Theater for a children’s theatrical performance as well as our annual family picnic where everyone is invited to share the day and celebrate the year
  • Parents are welcome to several events throughout the year…a coffee social at the beginning of the year, Halloween parade, Santa visits, Easter Hat parade, Spring recital and Graduation.  We also welcome siblings to visit our classes when they are out of school to visit their brothers or sisters and read a story to the class.
